"Get Smarter" Response

Cascio seems to me to be a bit contradictory. It's almost like he is writing a Rogerian argument in which he is forced to support both sides of the conflict over technological advances. He has many valid points about how augmented intelligence can be a beneficial thing especially when medicines are involved. He proposes that certain pills or snacks even will eventually allow us to focus more, increase our decision making abilities and preform at a generally higher intelligence. Then he goes on to say that many will debate the use of such drugs and tight restrictions will be placed on said medication.

Later in the article, he begins to discuss the topic of artificial intelligence. He starts off the section by stating his belief that true AI will occur within the next 50 years and it will be beneficial to the advancement of humans. That the AI will basically become a tool used in everyday life and almost every occupation. Then immediately following he explains the belief that AI has the potential to basically over take the human race due to its ability to self correct and adjust at incredible rates.

Overall I didn't dislike the article, it was actually pretty interesting to see how Cascio believes technology will evolve and what the new normal will become. I simply had a problem with the way in which these advances were presented. I finished reading with a feeling of confusion of whether to be excited for the advancements of the future or to be scared of some robot take over in which humans become inferior to the technology that they created.

Introduction to Arguments

The most interesting thing I remember from the reading was the view that an argument doesn't always have to have a winner and a loser. This rang a bell with me because when I think of an argument I always view one side as being successful and the other side as failing. After reading I realized that an argument can and should be an intellectual conversation in which each side supports their point and stands behind it. This doesn't mean that someone is right or more right than the other, but both sides can have valid points in their own right.

SWA #1

My best writing experience was actually incredibly recently. It was when I was just sitting in physics class before it started to began to write everything I was thinking as I thought it. It was so easy and fluid because it was literally translating my stream of consciousness. My worst writing experience was by far my sophomore year during my AP World History exam. I had absolutely no idea what I was writing about and by that time in my life really didn't know how to properly construct an essay. I sat there trying to make up facts as well as sounds smart and it just lead to a complete mental breakdown. The most recent writing has greatly effected me. It has inspired me to write freely and creatively on my own time. I don't mind that I messed up on my exam because I still passed, but this recent writing has opened up a new creative outlet for me.
